Consumer Unit Upgrades

If you’ve run out of room for new circuits, or want to upgrade to the latest protective devices, we can upgrade your Consumer Unit (also known as the fusebox) to one which is compliant with the latest version of BS7671 wiring regulations.

Our policy is to carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) prior to commencing work on any Consumer Unit upgrades, in order to identify any underlying issues which may affect the correct operation of the new Consumer Unit, and any other considerations relating to the existing wiring. This means that work will usually be carried out over two separate days.

Troubleshooting and repairs

If something isn’t right with your electrical installation – whether that’s a strange noise, smell, flickering lights or nuisance tripping of circuit breakers, we can diagnose and repair faults for your safety and convenience.

Minor works and alterations

Get rid of those trailing cables. Whether you’re mounting a television on the wall, or simply need an additional socket in a new location, Activon can modify and update your existing installation to suit your needs.

Complete rewires

Building regulations have changed over the years in response to the rise in electrical demand from consumer devices. If your installation is more than 30 years old, then perhaps a complete rewire is the best option to meet your current needs. From building refurbishments to occupied dwellings, we can rewire your entire property in accordance with the latest IET Wiring Regulations and Building Regulations

Periodic Inspection / EICR / Landlord Certification

It is recommended that all electrical installations are inspected periodically, and you should find a label on your consumer unit stating when the next inspection is due. Even in a domestic dwelling which has not been altered, it is recommended to inspect the electrical installation at least once every 10 years. For landlords and rental properties, once every 5 years, or upon change of tenant is recommended.

We provide an honest inspection report every time, meaning that we test every circuit and state clearly which samples of the installation were inspected and any limitations or areas which could not be inspected. Unlike some contractors, we don’t believe it is possible to complete a reliable Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) in under 2 hours, and for most domestic dwellings expect a periodic inspection to take around half a day.

We also undertake periodic inspection and testing for commercial and retail installations. Call 01292 502 400 or email electrical@activon.co.uk for more details.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) aka In-service inspection and testing

We offer a range of PAT testing services, from testing only through to a full test and repair service contract. Contact us to discuss how we can ensure you meet your statutory obligations as an employer, business or landlord.
